REVIEW: Shadowfever – A Fever series novel # 5 by Karen Marie Moning

This was a long book.  I thought there was something seriously wrong with my kindle.  So, I looked up the book and WHAM!  600+ pages heh ..

Two words to describe this “final” book in the Fever series … HOLY SHIT! 🙂

I am going to write a vague review with some text from the book itself.  I don’t want to chance spoiling what happens .. WOW!

Humans versus Unseelie versus Seelie versus each other?  Lies.  Secrets.  Manipulation.  Lust.  Shock!

This is the best book I have read this year.  Hands down .. totally rockin’ awesome!!

Mac and friends, or are they? .. Fighting for the world itself, selfish desires, power and individual goals leaves this book wide open for an enigmatic journey through Shadowfever.

The Lord Master, formally Aline’s love muffin leaves Mac unsure of what she believes that has come to pass.

The son of a bitch that started it all: seduced and either killed Alina or got her killed; had me raped by the Unseelie Princes, lobotomized, and turned into a helpless slave; abducted my parents and forced me into the Silvers; and drove me to the cliff’s edge, where I murdered Barrons.

He just doesn’t sound like a nice guy at all, does he?  Strangely enough, there are little tidbits that are revealed in this book about our ever-loving Darroc, Lord Master.  Enjoy!

Mac is an amazing character.  She’s my hero.  In the beginning, MacKayla was a sun shining rainbow that focussed on manicures and matching hot pink purses.  A cute sway of her hips while wearing a bright white skirt with adorable shoes she saved all summer for.

She’s just not our little girl anymore, is she?  She’s on edge.  She is pissed off and sick and tired of everyone’s shit.  Struggling with herself, her feelings, her identity, she continues to walk through the world that is hunting her down .. climbing into her throat and obsessively trying to possess her.

“Some people wouldn’t see a traitor when they looked at me.  Some people would see a survivor.  Call me anything you like-I sleep fine at night.  But you will look at me when you say it.  Or I’ll get so far in your face you’ll be seeing me in your nightmares.  I’ll scorch myself on the backs of your eyelids.  Get off my back and stay off it.  I’m not the woman I used to be.  If you want a war with me, you’ll get one.  Just try me.  Give me an excuse to go play in that dark place inside my head.”

WHOA!  Brings tingling goosebumps, does it not?

Barrons is just the sexiest thing that I have read in a long time.  He even beats Olaf!  Total bonus there!

Who is he?  What is he?  Where does he go when he leaves her?  The questions are endless and Mac strives to find those answers.  Evasive, strong, cryptic and lonely, Barrons digs underneath your skin and just snuggles you raw.

I can’t say a whole bunch about the revelations in this book, because OH MY GOODNESS BABY! .. You’ll just have to read for yourself 🙂

Dani surprises a lot of people with her consistent loyalty, regardless of what her past has morphed her into.    Mac and Dani grow profoundly close.  Birthday cakes and movies.  Painted toe nails and girl talk.

Unexpectedly, .. wait..I cannot say it!  *Beep*  Remove your fingers from the keyboard .. warning warning..no spoilers allowed!

Wooo .. I made it.  Nothing spoiled.

I recommend this book to adults that HAVE read this entire series from beginning to “end” .. If you have NOT read the books leading up to this one, then you’re just plain weird.  Read this series IN ORDER!

Strong sexual content, brutally lip licking delicious violence and a world that will just leave you throbbing with excitement!  A must read.

Line of the book

She warms his frost.  He cools her fever.

Book of the day … Dreamfever – A Fever novel by Karen Marie Moning

Ever had one of those days?  Well today found me and sucked me under.  Total blahness and I’m avoiding the world in an impressive way .. Comfy couch .. cloudy skies .. not too many interruptions .. And a kindle that needs to charge but that’s ok! .. I’m almost ready to start this book.

I have just enough time to take the laundry out of the dryer.  Figure, right? Ha!

“But for those of us who live large, the most alive we ever feel
is when we’re punching air with a fist, uncurling our middle
finger with a cool smile, and flipping Death the big old bird.”

MacKayla Lane lies naked on the cold stone floor of a church, at the mercy of the erotic Fae master she once swore to kill. Far from home, unable to control her sexual hungers, MacKayla is now fully under the Lord Master’s spell. In the New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning’s stunning new novel, the walls between human and Fae worlds have come crashing down. And as Mac fights for survival on Dublin’s battle-scarred streets, she will embark on the darkest-and most erotically charged-adventure of her life.

He has stolen her past, but MacKayla will never allow her sister’s murderer to take her future. Yet even the uniquely gifted sidhe-seer is no match for the Lord Master, who has unleashed an insatiable sexual craving that consumes Mac’s every thought-and thrusts her into the seductive realm of two very dangerous men, both of whom she desires but dares not trust.

As the enigmatic Jericho Barrons and the sensual Fae prince V’lane vie for her body and soul, as she rallies the sidhe-seers to fight an impossible battle, and the power of the Dark Book weaves its annihilating path through the city, Mac’s greatest enemy delivers a final challenge…

It’s an invitation Mac cannot refuse, one that sends her racing home to Georgia, where an even darker threat awaits. With her parents missing and the lives of her loved ones under siege, Mac is about to come face-to-face with a soul-shattering truth-about herself, and about the world she thought she knew.

REVIEW: Faefever – A Fever series novel # 3 by Karen Marie Moning

As much as I anticipate reading the books and finishing this series, this book was somewhat .. disappointing.

I did however enjoy the character progression!

Mac is an amazing character.  When she first came to life, she was a carefree soul that sun bathed by the pool in bikinis while fantacizing about guys.  Now, she’s turning into a cynical and confused .. lost female.  Sexual tension has left her wanting as she denies herself the acceptance of what she actually desires.

I was nothing if not determined; at least twice a week I would wear bright, pretty clothes.  I was afraid if I didn’t, I’d forget who I was.  I’d turn into what I felt like: a grungy, weapon-bearing, pissy, resentful, vengeance-hungry bitch.  The girl with long blond hair, perfect makeup, and nails might be gone, but I was still pretty.

Barrons is completely baffling.  I have read hundreds if not thousands of books.  There are many authors that keep you wondering, keep tugging on those strings with curiosity on what a character will become.   As frustrating as not knowing what Barrons IS, I like him.  I like the dominating, grumpy and stubborn personality that comes with him.

“In the Serengeti, Ms. Lane, I would be the cheetah.  I’m stronger, smarter, faster, and hungrier than everything else out there.  And I don’t apologize to the gazelle when I take it down.”

Fighting against a world that is desperately threatening to crash into “ours”, Mac isn’t sure who the good guys are.  Barrons?  Rowena?  V’lane?  Christian?  Every time she feels confident and comfortable with her assessment, something happens that pulls her feet back firmly onto the ground.

The ones who have no names, the abominations, those who are flawed yet live, those who hunger yet can never be sated, those who hate eternally, who need beyond bearing with their twisted limbs and psychopathic dreams, those who know but one joy: the hunt, the kill, the nectar of dust and ashes.

Although there are moments when I felt the relationships were becoming something tremendous, the scenes were rushed and unfocused.  Bummer.  The progression between Barrons and more importantly, V’lane, were skimmed over with very little detail or effort.

Perhaps that was the point after all?  Thus far, the books have been more centered on the action, the mysteries within.  Maybe I’m just a sucker for love triangles and engorging passions.  I want more of that.  I want to be thrown into a drowning sea of lust and passion that is being pulled between V’lane and Barrons.  I suppose, we shall see where this series takes us!

The ending of this book was .. ODD to say the least!  I crave more details.  I need more descriptive hellobaby moments.  On one hand, the ending of this book irritated me.  Thankfully, I do not have to wait to read the next book, Dreamfever.  If I read these books as they were released, I would find myself agitated and grumpy lol ..

I recommend this book to adults only.  Mild to moderate sexual content, however brief, there are some (unfortunately very few) wonderfully descriptive moments.  Moderate violence and some yummy flesh and blood moments.  Eww flat-out does it for me.  Gross?  Yes!  Bring it on!

I do not recommend this book to children or immature adults.

Now, I’m off .. to read Dreamfever!

~Happy Reading ❤
